Awesome 80’s Prom……

My boyfriend was asked by his friend and co-worker to be instrumental in creating a bit of a ruse in order to get his girlfriend to attend the Awesome 80’s prom where he planned an elaborate scheme to ask for her hand in marriage. The tickets were in my name, so she truly thought she was our guest to the event. As we waited in line outside Webster Hall, we eyed the other ticket-holders wearing sequined leg warmers, satin prom dresses and “Big Hair”. The ironic part of the night was that I actually DID attend a prom in the 80’s. Truth be told, my boyfriend is 26 and I’m not. He was born when I was getting my first perm and my driver’s permit. My actual 80’s prom date had three names, a mouthful of braces and I don’t think he had ever kissed a girl in his life. Here I was in 2008 attending a mock prom transporting me back to a time when I was a virginal metal mouth voted “most friendly” and most likely to “save the world”. Right before the Prom King and Prom Queen were announced, our friends were asked to come up to the stage.The proposal was a success..she said Yes! then jumped into his arms as they a lip locked for over five minutes. We all danced to Bon Jovi’s infamous song. “You give Love a Bad Name!” If my friends could see me now! Congrats to J.L. and Corey…..a truly “awesome” couple!!
