Finding a Man for my Mom…..

My Mother was married to my Father for over 38 years. Unfortunately or gratefully, depending on who is telling the story, they divorced. My Father was my Mother’s one true love, but then she finally realized that Love should never be excruciating. My Mother agrees that it is truly time to meet a new Man and begin the ritual of dating at 67 years of age. She has her reservations and anxieties about embarking on a new romance, and eventually making out with some man who has his own historical relationship traumas. If you met my Mom you would fall in love with her. She’s absolutely the most optimistic person I have ever met in my life. She is genuine, loving and possesses this incredible light that draws everyone to her.


I was speaking to my friend Betsy this weekend about my Mom and her life and my concerns about her future. My friend said “Just sign her up on EHarmony and see what happens.” So I did. I filled out their arduous personality and psychological questionnaires and prayed that I was answering the questions the way my Mother would. Then I downloaded a really sweet picture of her. Eharmony is notorious for attracting more spiritually evolved suitors, so I felt this was the safest site. Within minutes she had “6” interested Men. I was blown away by the immediacy of the response. They all met “our” criteria…No smoking, No heavy drinking, Love for family, the outdoors and travel. I quickly called my Mother who was on her way to work. I screamed: “Mom, there are six guys who want to meet you!” She started laughing hysterically until I told her what I did. Then she said. “Oh Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I have to go on a diet!”

When she returned home that night she went to her friend Connie’s house and they both researched her profile, the site and the six eager bachelors. She made a few minor alterations to the answers I provided…for some reason I gave her an extra grandchild…ooops!! Now she has to commit to emailing these gentlemen and setting up a phone “date”. She sounded like a high school girl. Who knows what will actually transpire, but she seems so happy and thrilled to meet some interesting new guys. Today she has two more hits! You Go Mom!
